roughly 2 months ago I noticed that there was a rattle in the back of my car near the tailpipe. It sounded similar to as if there was a gravel rattling around inside the muffler. I took it to AAMCO, who said that what had most likely happened was that a piece had broken apart internally and was rattling around, but everything was still functioning fine. I've been searching through the forums, and it seems that the catalytic converter coming apart internally is not entirely uncommon.

My question is such: Will I need to replace the catalytic converter eventually? or is it fine to let it be and just deal with the rattle? also, will this be a problem next time the car is taken through emissions testing?
