Noise when I turn

Whenever I make a full turn to the left or right...I hear a rubbing sound. On our 1987 190D we had a shock or something like that had to be replaced then the noise went away. Does my 1998 c230 have this shock...or could the prob be something else?

I think that's a standard operation, when you turn your steering to the end in either direction there's a screeching sound that alarms you that you made the full turn.
