i'm doing this from memory since my car is in oregon and i am in Va for a while but i believe that you hold down the button on the visor while opening/closing your garage door with the opener. i think it helped me to hold the opener up close to the visor as well. hope this helps.

Try going to www.homelink.com I think there are good instructions there regarding the programming of the opener.
