Smart Key reprogramming
Smart Key reprogramming
Can a smart key be re-programmed to another car (or can the car be re-programmed to another smart key)?
or
Do you have to order a new smartkey from MBUSA that is programmed specifically to your car?
i.e. if I buy one that is not from my car, can I get it reprogrammed as an extra key?

it's my understanding that only up to eight keys can be made for any mercedes, and if you lose eight, you need new locks and ignition.

As for programming to another car, I don't think it can be done. What the dealer has to do is send your VIN number to Germany and get a replacement key. Then when it arrives at the dealer, they program it to your ignition so it recognizes the new key.
Each key is coded for your specific ignition module, so don't think reprogramming can be done.

I'm going to try it later tonight. Gotta get some programming outta da way
There are eight key tracks, but you can have up to two duplicates for each key track. So thats three keys for each key track.
And No you can not use someone elses key from there car, for your car.
But you can use the case of another key for you own.

No one seems to be answering teh question. The guy is asking if a key for another car can be reprogrammed to work on his. I've researched and spoken with mercedes guys and i think they're all lying when they tell me it can't be reprogrammed. Either way, no one will take it in for me to get it done. They all claim it cannot be done. But i'd go hastle them about it anyway.
