A/C Compressor issue - 98 C280

Iv searched several threads pertaining to my issues but I wanted some help clarifying a few things.
Last summer my A/C stopped blowing cold so I purchased a charge kit. The A/C was cold for a day and then warmed up again. I figured ok it must have a leak... I didn't use the whole bottle so I reattached the built in gauge and the pressure still read normal. At that point I dealt with it and just went without A/C for the rest of the year.
Today I started researching it and have seen evap temp sensors mentioned as a point of weakness in the A/C system. So I ran the diagnostic mode and sure enough one of the codes was evap system. I also popped the hood and noticed the compressor is not running.
My question is should I but another canister and gauge to confirm that the system is not pressurized or over pressurized before purchasing an evap sensor?
Second Question- I noticed the fan was wobbly. Bolts look tight to the water pump. Does this mean its water pump time?

Out Of Control!!

Don't be foolish--have someone put a set of gages on the system to understand if the compressor is making pressure----don't add more until you are told to do so
re wobbly fan-----inspect the area what is really damaged!!

So I inspected it when I got home and the four bolts holding the fan on are very secure. If I grab the fans blade it wobbles back in fourth about a quarter of inch to each side. Could this be the fan clutch? I'v read things saying the bearings in the water pump are probably wearing out.

Yes. the pulley has the fan attached
Don't worry about the fan, just watch the pulley that the fan belt runs in.
If it wobbles, then it's a water pump bearing.
Not expensive to replace. It's a DIY job
Also, if you hear a slight "tinging" sound, it's normally the pulley wobble causing the pulley to slightly touch the water pump
Good luck
