Catalytic Converters

I've been smelling a strong sulfur odor lately, so I assume my catalytic converter is going out. Anyone know what the cost of an OEM replacement would be? Also, has anyone used an aftermarket high-flow unit like Supersprint? How so they work out? Thanks,

Steve

I get that smell occasionally also. From what I've been told (by the dealer), this is a normal thing for Mercedes and doesn't mean your cats are going.

Try switching fuel next time you need to gas up again. We had this problem too a few years ago and he said change stations and once in a while, try to put in special (89)...we did that and the sulfur smell went away. Hasn't come back ever since.

i wouldnt recommend aftermarket performance high-flow cats because they wont pass the emission tests on many occasions even if they say that it is DOT approved. furthermore, there is only a negligible increase in power for the smelly exhaust which will result.

The one (and only) time I put 89 octane in my c280, it immediately developed a misfire, that didn't go away for weeks. I finally replaced the coils and the problem was solved. I don't know if it was a coincidence that they went out the day I put 89 octane in, but I'm afraid to do it again.

haha...some good ***** man...want some? j/k.

That was a few years ago and nothing happened except the sulfur smell did go away. Just had my car oil changed and some parts replaced. They went over my car and said everything was fine. Just motor mounts, tranny mount and front ball joint wearing out. Other than that, it's in great shape.

BTW, i put 93 now as the sulfur smell hasnt come back after a few tanks of 89!
