w202 Gauge cluster illumination problem

Hello. I have 1996 mercedes benz c230 kompressor. The gauge cluster lights suddenly stopped working. Clock, mileage- and temperaturemeter works fine as well as the warning lights. I've tried to change the bulbs, lightswitch and battery. Anyone else had the same problem?

Did you check the fuses? You didn't mention it.

All fuses are ok.

I changed whole instrument cluster still no illumination.

Perhaps too easy but did you by any chance turn the light switch left of the cluster? On mine the center position does not give illumination in the cluster while the full right position does. This however means headlights stay on even if the key is drawn out of the ignition. So I need to manually turn the switch each day.
