97 C280 engine swap options
Hey guys I got a basically free 97 C280 sport with a blown head gasket and a rod knock with 245,xxx miles, other then the engine the car is clean one previous owner who kept up on the service and to good car of her. Instead of rebuilding which I hear it's hard to do due to the cylinder casting I'm looking to do a swap.
I really want to add more power, I wanted a c36 motor but I can't seem to find any, would I be able to easily swap in a c43 motor from a 98 or newer? It has the 5 speed electronic transmission as in the later models or are they sightly different? I have no problem doing fab work for New mounts and stuff but I don't want to start doing major electrical overhauls. I'd really prefer a simple bolt on swap, will the 3.2 m104 fit in easily or any other engine that is a simple swap I'm all ears! I'd love if I could get my hands on a c36 motor but that seems to be a pipe dream ATM.
Any recommendations on what I should do? If anything I'll just get another c280 i6 but I'd rather not if I had other options.
