A/C Questions

hey all,

weather these past few days have been warm and muggy here in MA....A/C has to be turned on to get rid of the stickyness

just wondering if any of you fellow w202er's have vibrations when sitting at a stop light or just idling when you have the A/C on? mine feels like i'm getting a massage :p when the A/C is off, very little vibrations.

also, it seems when the A/C is on, the shifting gets a little jerky when going from 1st to 2nd...but when the A/C is off, it's fine.

thanks!

hmm i dunno, my tranny shifts very hard between 1-2 and 2-3

i know turning on the A/C puts more strain on the pulleys and serpentine belt (b/c youre asking for more power from the alternator and the entire system needs to compensate etc... i think). maybe the increased load on the pulleys is causing the vibrations?

yeah, it is a small engine to begin with and the age of it doesn't help :p I guess it's just the strain on it from the compressor kicking in and running. I'm hoping when I do the motor mounts and tranny mounts, the vibrations will be a little less because right now the engine is just sitting on teh chassis as the motor mounts are pretty much worn out.

do you get vibrations?

motor mounts/engine mounts. if the engine is sitting on the chassis and the engine vibrates, metal on metal could get more vibrations than if there were the rubber absorbers sitting between the engine and chassis. And the extra strain on the engine from the compressor would make more vibrations :p

my SA said that when i replace the motor mounts, it'll be smooth again, no more vibrations.

I always thought that was a normal thing for four cylinder cars because of the strain on a smaller engine. Mine vibrates a little with the A/C on and my engine (hell the car in general) is in excellent condition. My friend's 2001 Honda Accord vibrates like a massager with 50K on it. His car is in pristine mechanical condition.
