Diagnostic tool primer needed
SRS light is staying on lately. I really would like to learn how to diagnose myself as much as possible.
I could use some help figuring out my choices of equipment for diagnosing our 1998 C230.
As I understand it, I can use a 38 pin breakout box and a simple LED code reader to diagnose the SRS problem. I am not clear if this same device can diagnose all that an OBD2 scanner so should I have both?
I see that there are OBD2/CAN scanners that say they will work on any car newer than 1996 but I wonder if that's always true and whether
I should look for a specific reader.
I've been chasing electrical gremlins with windows, seats and mirrors and I would like to know if it safe to say that there are no devices available for the average home mechanic that will troubleshoot these non engine and emissions related systems and a professional mechanic is the only option.
