Failing emissions due to catalyst monitor
Hey guys i have a 1998 c230 with 167k on the odometer, i recently replaced my secondary air pump and after i cleared the code i began driving it to allow the readiness monitors to reset. it has been almost 4 weeks and the monitor still shows being not ready. anyone have any thoughts. also there is a little bit of rattling inside of my cat. im not sure if it is going bad because if it was wouldnt the check engine light be on?

A code reader should also be able to erase your codes. For the most part, they will not go away by themselves.
A rattling catalytic converter may still do enough of it's job so as not to set a code, but again a code reader may be able to compare pre-cat 02 readings with post-cat 02 readings.
