rims
hey all,
my rims are starting to peel on the clear coat. I'm contemplating switching rims, same size cuz my tires are fairly new, only about 20k on them and still good treadlife left.
I'm looking on tire rack and I like the "Borbet Type E" for $109 / piece. 15x7 size so that I can keep the tires I got now. What do you think?
here's a link: http://www.tirerack.com/upgrade_gara...&autoYear=1994
what's your thought? Thanks guys!
BTW, click on the red arrow on the right and it's the first one shown. thanks!

If you go with 15's again you will regret it. Bigger wheels look so much better. I made the mistake of going with 16's and then 6 months later made the smart decision to go with 18's. Just my opinion.

ok, but what if I don't want to lower the car? I also want to have high performance all seasons, like the Dunlop SP5000's? I know that Z rated tires would get eaten up quickly, no?

tirewear has more to do with driving style, and the type of driving that you do than the rating of the tire. I go through tires every 20k miles or so, my friend chews up the tires on his 944 every 6 months or so.... sport tires are usually made from a softer compound for better grip than all weather tires... you can get dunlop sp-5000 in low profile (assymetrical)... but I wouldn't put anything larger than 16" in your car, considering the mileage and the fact that you're still probably riding on the original suspension. those borbet wheels look nice, but in any case you can always just sent out your stock rims for repair...
p.s. weren't you giving the c220 to your brother?

no time, no chrome
I dont recommend chrome unless you have lots of time to care for them. Lots of polishing, haha. But I think if you got 16" or 17" they'd look hot. You could still find an all season lowprofile for them- p.s.- get H&R springs ($240) and any rims will look hot.

I may go 16's only because the age of the car (who knows how much longer i'm going to keep it) and mileage. I just want a simple upgrade and I think the Borbet E's are a good choice for that, looks and practicallity and won't break my bank :p

yes, mine are still stock and the rubber is still good.
how much does it cost to refinish or polish up the wheels? the clearcoat is coming off on one of them and there are like brake dust baked onto some of the spokes

Clear will come right off, and so will the brake dust.
Not sure where you are, or what has happened to the market. When I owned my shop we used to be able to get it done for $5-10 per wheel from our chrome plater and then would resell it for whatever the market would bear. We'd get $25-50 per wheel retail, plus mounting & balancing. You'll be without wheels for the time they have them doing the polishing and during transit unless you can find a plater locally. You will have to care for a polished aluminum wheel from time to time. There are some really good products out there, though.
The easiest way to go about this is the chrome exchange. Someone will have them already in stock and ship them to you. You take them down to your local REPUTABLE tire shop and have them installed, and ship back the cores. I'd budget something like $600 for the set plus installation.
