Transmission shift points
Awhile ago, my transmission seemed to begin staying in gear too long, and I needed a high RPM (around 4000) in 3rd gear to get it into 4th.
I have had a fluid change, new filter, and new conductor plate. This was for maintenance service only, as the tranny was in fine shape internally.
I did a reset 3 times to change the shift points, but if I am on the highway, it kicks into 5th gear just fine, it's low speed that is keeping it too long in gear.
The problem is related to driving in town, not highway???
I did a scan, and no error codes.
Any ideas?????

My '98. M112.7 V6, 76,000 miles, does this also as we come home, up a steep ridge. We already changed the conductor plate and one solenoid, plus fluid, maybe two years ago. I had the shift control solenoids in my hands and tested continuity with the voltmeter and they were fine. Reassembled, same problem, took it to the independent who changed the solenoid and fluid for $1200. Tech said that sometimes they "just act up", but he also changed something else in the valve body that was broken. As the problem has not returned I don't mentally index those parts.
Actually, as infrequently as my trans behaves this way, I will live with it, but if there's a solution I'll certainly look into it.

Thanks for the note.
I have used each shift option individually, and it makes a slight difference. 1st to 2nd acts normally, going to 3rd and above is where it stays in gear too long.
On the highway, it acts completely normal all through the gears. It's a low speed thing around town.
I drive by the Tach, more than the speedo
I was not aware of the Bowden cable you mentioned, and I will check that out.
Thanks for the tip
