How to (Clear/Reset/Erase) (CEL/Codes/ECM)
I've been looking a method(s) to clear the error codes myself not relying on dealer.
I've come accross several methods in various threads and I wanted to put every method in this thread so newbies like me can find info easily.
I assume Clear/Reset/Erase CEL/Codes/ECM all refer to the same thing. (Am I correct?)
Here's the list of methods I found.
1. Disconnect negative terminal of battery and reconnect after a few min. (Radio code is needed)
2. Take out Fuse # ??? (please tell me exact fuse number, then I'll update it) for a few min. and put it back. (Radio code is needed)
3. Code clear requires key off for 30 secs, key on for 10 secs and then start for at least 10 sec.
4. Push the button on the diagnostic connector for 2-3 seconds, the error code flashes, then hold down the button for 6 to 8 seconds, repeat for the next error code. When you turn your key to the off position, and then re-start the car.
5. method to make a simple reset for the car especially for the remote control system. Put the key in the switch, turn the ignition on(not the engine) and press on the remote opening buttom found on the key and here you go turn off the ignition then start the engine.
Please add more mothods or corrections to what I wrote. I'll update it as I get more info.
thanks

I tried your last method (5), and the 'check engine' light remained on.
Would you explain #3 in more detail.
Any tips?
I don't know my radio code and I don't want to drive to my MB dealer to get it.
Thanks!
