HELP! my rpm revs up to 5000+ upon start up

My 1999 c230k was fine just yesterday and then this morning when I started it the rpm just kept revving up past 6000 so I shut it off and tried again then it did it again so I let it go and it stopped and went back down but only to 1500. When I put it in drive I can feel it trying to rev its self a little and I have to push the brakes extremely hard to stop the car! Help please and thank you!

I think it’s either the throttle body sensor or the actual throttle body but I’m not sure. I did take out and clean the throttle body and it didn’t help

Use an OBDII interface to check two things:
1. Check the RPMs. The wrong value here can be a Crankshaft Position Sensor.
2. Check the Throttle Position Sensor value . My 1999 C230K shows about 4.5-5% when cold. A bad value here could be the Throttle Body Sensor or the Accelerator Pedal Sensor.
I just did this using Torque (Lite) on my phone with a cheap $10 interface.
Obviously, don't let your car overrev. Do this when your car's at 1500 or so. 6000 is above redline for your car.
