differential broke and compatibility
Hi guys, happy new year to all of you.
Last sunday i was on the highway with my family when suddenly we felt something was wrong with the car, i thought it was a tire but no, all 4 were ok, log story short, the car lose traction, i put it on gear and nothing, reverse and nothing ( it is a manual ) , then i recall that it was leaking fluid from the differential, now i have to look for a replacement. Do you guys know if its got to be a c220 specific one ? or could it be a c230, or c280 compatible with my car?
thanks a lot for you answers

MBWorld Fanatic!
just cause it is leaking does not mean differential is toast - could be if it went bone dry and burned up bearings.
I would open up and inspect first as issue could be in tranny?

I don't have any experience with replacing Mercedes diffs, but you can post your VIN and we can look up the part number on EPC. According to this site, a C280 should fit:

This site is nice, not for buying parts because they are $$$$, but for showing part numbers, diagrams, and possible compatible parts

Sorry to hear about the diff. It looks like a 95-96 C220 C280 should fit if you can find one in a junkyard. I've heard that if you jack the rear end using the diff it can cause the housing seal to leak, which is a PITA to replace.
