Ordered a chip

My ECU is in California right now getting a new chip from Powerchip Group. It's supposed to put me up at 220 hp and 226 ft/lbs. of torque. I'll let you know tomorrow how everything turned out in case anyone is interested. I think I may be the only one on this forum with a chip on a C class so this ought to be interesting.

good luck with it Doug...let us know how it turns out. I've always been curious about chips in the earlier w202's.

Thanks for the info. I want to do the same thing so I'll be sure to check your followup posts.

a car that can't do the throttle reset.
powerchip gave you those statistics? what was it before? just a factory 280? if so they are lying to you. i had a 36 and a 43, neither of them had that much gain.

The c36 or the c43 doesn't have a supercharger also. These chips "supposedly" do give that much power, but will it help in the long run is the true question.

thats why i asked if his car was factory or not. he has a 280, that is naturally aspirated from the factory. no blower, unless he put one in. and i hada blower in the 43, and the gains still werent that big.

Their site quoted 209 hp and 213 hp, and it's torque to between 208 lb.-ft and 212 lb.-ft. based on me entering 2000; C280.

So we're averaging 211hp and 210 lb. ft. Is it worth the $390 price tag??

I know my other car is turbo charged and I went from 180 hp to 224 hp
and 174 lb ft. to 254 lb ft. for $499. In this case, it was noticeable and
worth every penny.

The chip is custom programmed for my intake and my exhaust. This will be total horsepower. The chip itself only gives about 22 horsepower. It is expensive but does anyone elso know how to get useful torque on a Benz for that much money? There are ways to get horsepower but it only kicks in at like 5000 rpm. This gives me power where I need it, at the lower end of the power band.

Well I just took the car on its first test drive. It definately made a difference. It revs out of control now and shifts so much quicker. It even sounds different just sitting at idle. The biggest difference is the throttle response. No more waiting for the kickdown switch to change to first gear. Right when you punch it, it goes. It takes about 14 days for the chip to learn my car. It will be at its fastest after that grace period. I'll keep you all updated but everything has gone perfectly so far.

The company is great. They treat everyone like their spending thousands of dollars and will bend over backward to help with any questions. If anyone is interested Travis is the man to talk to. He knows everything about the C Class. This is definately the best experience I have ever had dealing with performance parts.

Thanks for the update. I just got the information and will look it over this
weekend. I can't be without a car too long but don't mind taking a Friday off
after overnighting it to them on the Thursday prior. Reinstall on a Monday and
go to work a little later...... If I don't run across anything else, I may order too.

Can you toggle between the modes (stock vs chip)? My last car I could do
this from the cruise control device while the car is off.

This chip is in a "always on" mode. You can't control it. I would never want to turn it off though. It's too much fun.

very cool I must say I've never been keen on all the engine mods with c class I have a c280 myself but before I start doing chip mods like these (I might as well go to the sam place I live in San Bernardino which is like 40 mins away) is there anyway to engine swap with a v8? I was thinking if there was anyway to bring the e55 amg engine into my c280, I really like the old school body, and i'd rather keep that then get the newer ones, even if it does end up costing more

doug, if you dont mind me asking, how much was the chip?

side turn signals can be put on any car... but it looks kinda goofy on cars that dont have them from the factory.

honestly, i dont know but if you got one of those small, thin ones like the ones they have on the bimmers, it will probably look pretty cool. placement is another issue. i have no clue about that one though. its all about what you want.

The total price was $475. That's shipping and everything.

hmmm.... I'm sounds very intriguing... I'll be looking into this after I get an exhaust. No point getting the chip first...

But thanks for the tip Doug... including those pbr deluxe pads... no brake dust is great!
