Performance Exhaust for 98 C230
First I would like to thank everyone for your assistance on my Navigation Modification questions!!
Now I am looking for the most economical means of beefing up my exhaust system. I am searching the threads but can't find anything on my 98, C230.
I need, stress NEED!! to gain more horsepower and better sound, not muscle car sound...what's the recommendation from the team...
THANKS!!!
Alex

even after changing the entire exhaust system, you will only gain a couple horses and ft-lbs. if it feels faster, chances are its all up in your head. but it does make the car sound much nicer.
get remus.

The only real way to get more ponies from your car is to add a supercharger or other forced induction system. However, it would cost less to sell your 98 and buy a 99 C230-K, and give you far fewer headaches.
Simply opening up the exhaust will not give any measurable performance gain.
The best options for you, money-wise would be to...
1. Sell the C230 and buy a later C230K, either a 1999 or 2000 model.
2. Sell the C230 and buy any year C280, as they had 194hp.
3. Sell the C230 and buy any year C36AMG. 268/276hp. In my parts, selling a 98 C230 and shelling out the bucks to move into a C36 is far less than any serious performance mods for the C230. You also get monster brakes, 17" AMG wheels, AMG suspension and AMG cache.
Keep in mind that any money you pour into the C230 is lost. Selling a modified car brings little return on anything you put into it, and will limit your market. Many folks (myself included) stay away from modified cars, fearing that the owner drives it very very hard. Also, many younger people modify their cars, using all their avaliable funds, and end up not following a rigorous maintainance schedule, which is far more important for many MB customers than a trick exhaust.

a car that can't do the throttle reset.
a supercharger can be added to anything.
and to the starter of this thread... if you "NEED" horsepower, do some real mods and get into the motor. an exhaust is going to do jack dillhole for your "NEED" for horsepower.

For something quick and somewhat painless on the pocket get a chip. www.powerchipgroup.com has it for around $400 dollars.
I have intake and exhaust on my car. The only real thing I noticed is slightly better throttle response. This could be due to my original filter being really dirty. I wasn't able to make real use of my exhaust until the the chip programmed for a free flowing exhaust was installed. -Instant gratification!!!

All free flowing exhausts are pretty much the same in power. Some just sound better than others. You can only do so much when expelling air and the best way to do it is with now restrictions. That's the cheapest way to do it too. That's why I just have 3 inch pipe going to a Remus muffler. It sounds good, looks good, and was a hair under $500.

uh...
the mosselman turbo is nice, and there IS a supercharger kit for W202's made by BergWerks. Also, the turbo kits that add the most horsepower (that I've seen) are from Boykin Racing- insane gains.

Caliber Motors in Anaheim Hills, Ca 92807, was no good they don't have amg exhaust for c280's and its weird because they are club202 friends, but the last c280 mods or parts besides repair they had was some guy wanting exhaust tips
