new to forum

Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum and just wanted to say whats up. I drive a 95 c280 and its my second benz so far. I have a couple of questions to start off, first, the headliner is really starting to peel pretty bad on my sliding sunshade, does anyone know how to get it out? Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Second, where do I buy Bosch clear corners rather than the cheap rip offs on ebay? Thanks

I've searched the forums to try to come up with an answer on how to remove the sunroof shade, but I can't find anything I'd like to get it fixed soon so any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Huh, I didn't know this sunshade thing was a problem. Mine just started doing it a couple of months ago. I was just going to soak mine in spray adhesive and press it pack up there. TP listed the best place for the clear corners.

I'm not sure if it is a common problem. I've thought about spraying some adhesive inside where it is coming down but, I would rather have it out of the car and fix it rather than risk dripping adhesive anywhere.

Did I take the name you really wanted..?

(040 is MB code for "black...")

Welcome, and as to the clear corners, I haven't bought any, but know people that bought them through Bekkers and were highly satisfied...

Blackmercedes, no you don't have the name that I was seeking. Although when I saw it, I laughed and thought it was ironic. Saying the paint code is subtle I guess..

Bekkers it is for the corners...I didn't know that anyone else was experiencing the headliner issue like I was. Hopefully I'll find a solution so I can close the shade sometime soon. (It's ugly with the liner just hanging there)

ugly...

040, you posted this same question on Benzworld, right? I think you'll find this forum will bring you many more answers than Benzworld, unless scorchie decides to post there. In regards to the headliner looking ugly, I'd rather have that problem than what I've been looking at since I bought my car...

The previous owner was in the military, so he had a car cover on for an extended period of time. (around a year) When he came back and removed the cover, the clear-coat had bubbled and peeled in places on the hood and roof, but not the trunk. (dont ask me why) My car's hood looks like it has acne. This is going to cost me near 1k to fix, becuase some spots are bad enough that it can't be feathered out. The upside- got the car for $6,400 with 90k and wiring harness job already done. 94 C220

Sholly, I did post that topic at benzworld, only there I go by the name 'dasboost'. I've already found that this forum is more insightful than benzworld simply because people actually post replies around here. I've found that whenever I post something there, no one replies back. It's kind of frustrating.

As for looking at ugliness, it sounds like your problem is a little more serious than mine. Hey, at least the girls can't see the paint issues from the passenger seat right?

For tech questions, the busiest place is mercedesshop.com and they have a group of incredible professional techs that post regulary. However, with 15k members, there is a chance that your post gets lost in the shuffle.

Some 202 models are notorious for having bad wiring harnesses, having this fixed before you buy a used c class is a plus. I have not experienced this problem yet so it was either taken care of before I bought it or I am in for a serious treat.

so has anyone come up with a solution to my original post? that is, how do I remove the sunroof shade????

The wiring harnesses in ALL MB's 1993-1995 were made with a biodegradable insulation that degrades VERY quickly, leading to all kinds of running problems. Mercedes replaced many harnesses well out of warranty for original owners, but is slowing in their goodwill on that issue.

The part price varies widely depending on model and engine. In the W202,the most expensive harness belongs to, surprise, the C36.

Ok, blackMB's answer is a lot better than mine. I never knew that it was all MB models. Turns out I learned something myself.

So, I have posted a thread at mercedesshop.com, and they don't seem to have an answer to my question either. Is the sunroof shade not supposed to come out? Am I a moron for thinking that it will??

it definiely is removable

It is definitely a removable part. My local body shop who works on Mercedes often (when the stealership has too many cars to get done fast enough) and will soon be fixing my paint issue are going to have to remove my sun roof to do so. The ordered some sort of diagram that shows how to take it off, so if you can find that 040, you're in business.

end of the tunnel...

You can always count on me to be standing at the end of the tunnel with info... the only problem is that most of the time I'm holding a sign that says dead end...

I finally found out how to take out the sunroof shade...I was at my local dealer getting my oil changed, when I asked a mechanic. You have to drop the whole headliner just to get to the shade. Finally

I finally got the shade out!! You don't have to take out the headliner. It's eight bolts and the glass sunroof is out no problem. Then the shade slides right out. I called my local dealer to find out how much a new shade would cost, $458.00 FUGGA DAT!! I know mercedes didn't make um' cheap but damn! I'm just going to re-apply the old headliner with spray adhesive. If anyone has the problem with the shade slaming shut under hard braking, I figured that one out too. There are strips of fabric on each side of the shade. It should stay back using friction. If it slams forward, these strips are worn out. I have not figured out how to fix it yet, just know what causes it. I don't know if this is how it works on other models, I just know that is how it is on my 202. I'm pumped! I'm gonna fix that fricking sagging shade fabric once and for all!!!!!!!!!!
