It definately sounds like you have a clogged catalytic converter. They smell like rotten eggs when they clog. I would think your sensor is fine, if it went out, you would see a check engine light. This would explain why the car bogs and stumbles, if the exhaust has nowhere to go, it'll run like ****.

Years ago...
I had a clogged cat on a 280e, and it didn't make any sound. In fact, that was the giveaway- it was TOO quiet. You could hear the engine noise but no exhaust noise. And it could hardly move itself on the road with all the backpressure!
On the 280e there were 2 "pre" cats- one at each manifold outlet and when they slowly died, their contents would blow into the main cat and clog it up.
Good luck

Here are some symptoms of a clogged cat:
bogged down acceleration - especially hot
rotten egg smell
cat turns bright red
A possible reason for failure is that your engine is dumping unburnt fuel into the convertor. Like a coil or plug wire is bad or something that would cause one of the cylinders to not get spark. Nevertheless, it is odd that you do not have a check engine light.
Since you already paid a shop to fix your car, you should take it back, since it is still broken.
Good luck!
