Help! ABS Warning Light Lit, and Transmission not Shifting

Hello all,

I have a 1997 C230. I went to turn on my car, and the ABS light on the instrument panel turned on. I then tried driving the car, however the transmission wasn't upshifting out of 1st or 2nd gear. Perhaps this is the "Limp Home Mode". I have had my transmission changed under warranty already. By the way, the car has 70,000 miles on it. Any help would be really appreciated!

1997 C280; 1991 190E

Took to the shop and it was the ABS speed sensor on the differential as I thought. Thank you all for your input and help. $130 parts, $350 total repair.

Oops, I thought I was replying to my post with the same problem. My 97 C280 was doing the same thing. Would not shift out of 1st and the ABS light was on. Hope this helps.

does anyone know what would cause this, or if there is any way I can avoid this, i have a 97 c280, with 80k on it, anything I should do? and good luck with your cars, I know what its like when your car has problems and it sucks, all the best
