I used regular 87 unleaded!

Am I in trouble? My friend borrowed the car and was trying to be nice by filling my tank he said he put 87 unleaded in it?

It seems to run fine. No knocking... anyone else use regular 87 ocatane unleaded?

Thanks for any replies.

Sanny

I use 89 in my 97 c280: recommended by a mechanic. I don't about 87 though. Besides, yours is a 2000. I wouldn't go on with the 87 if I were you.

as far as i know, using anything lower than what is stated by mercedes is bad, very bad, I've never seen anyone do it so I couldn't judge it to be true, but who knows, plus I think that sounded funny.

top it off with premium as soon as you can and you should be fine. one tank of 87 shouldn't hurt that bad, just don't keep it up

A mercedes mechanic told me that I can use 89 octane in my car: he even said that it will run better. I have run with it without ill effect for the past month: no knocking.

Consider this: do you think that everyone who leases cars put in premium gas? The vast majority probably don't. If lower octane gas were that bad, most leased cars would be junk!

I can't imagine putting 87 in it for one tank is going to make any difference. Just don't push it hard. Also, what about putting a bottle or two of octane booster? Maybe something like this...

STP Octane Booster

I don't know about yours, but my owners manual has specific instructions on what to do when you accidentally or HAVE TO run 87. Check it out. I ran it one time and my car didn't run (actually died on me once) so well. I ended up following the instructions in the owners manual and put some octane booster in it.

you get lower gas mileage and probably a little power loss. engines can run on any of the three octanes. I wouldn't go as low as 87...89 or 91/93 should more than likely be fine

One tank of 87 isn't going to kill the car, don't worry. Nice of your friend to fill up the tank though

some people have found no difference in 89 vs 91/93 in gas mileage.
