2000 W202, C280 USA....this car's headlights will stay on for 30 seconds, approx, after driving with the lights on, and then shutting the car off. recently noticed that only the passenger side stays on, while the drivers side does not. what controls this feature, what should I test, look for in order to fix this situation

 

Should be an easy answer , but on my w203 the setting for this feature is in the 'secret' or 'hidden' menu . on my model i press the reset mileage button 3x after turning key to 1st position and hear a beep, i can then navigate to the 'lighting' setting - off - 15 - 30 seconds.

Does the driver side light work when the lights are turned on normally? its not just coincidentally broken and needs a new bulb?

*my apologies, i think you're asking someone with electronic knowledge (if the lights work fine while driving but during night illum. mode only one works? xentry diagnostics / diagnosedan to the rescue i hope

 

both headlights work OK, will test bulbs just in case its as simple as that, but I doubt it

 

as a follow up to my own question.....the drivers light did not stay on after driving with the lights on (aka- night security illumination) because it needed a new H1 bulb, always check the obvious is my new default. all fixed !!
