diesel sound from gas c220

Hi everyone...thanks for the hours of entertainment you have given me not to mention the vast amout of knowlegdge. I have a "diesel-ish", "chain-ish", sound only when the gas is pressed or released. It smooths out as the engine revs up but returns as it revs down. Dealer said I needed a new timing chain tensioner so I replaced it, then he said I needed a new chain guide at the top, front of the engine so I replaced it. The sound is still there and the dealer has his rent paid for another month. The niose is at the front and at the top of the engine...any ideas??
Thanks Spider

the first thing i thought of when you said dieselish is the low octane engine knock. are you using premium gas by any chance?

I have gas!

Thanks, but I am using premius gas withevery fill up. the sound occures only when you press or release the gas pedal, it only lasts about a second or two, it Revs itself away as you depress the pedal and is at the very top of the engine.

Same thing

I have the same exact problem on my 1995 c220, Did you change the chain as well? or just the tensioner and the guide. I was about to do the same but now that I hear from you that it didn't solve the problem I'm thinking it over again. I'm gessing that if you didn't change the chain it could have elongated to much to be properly tensioned even with a new tensioner. but if you changed the chain that option wolud be dismissed.
