97 c280 shift problem
hi, i am new to this forum and i was wondering if i could get some help. my dad's 97 automatic c280, according to what he says, its very hard or impossible for him to shift it into drive, and when it has worked, when he stepped on the gas pedal, the car won't accelerate. he wasn't able to go past 30-40mph. if anyone has an idea of what is wrong, please let me know. thanks in advance

Sounds to me like the car went into "limp" mode. This is what happens when there is something severely wrong with the car. The computer does this. Search around for info. on head gasket problems. I know there are some threads in here that discuss limp mode associated with head gasket issues and other misc. problems. Are there any lights on like CEL etc.? Still, I would get it to a dealer ASAP.
