C230K sound system
Hello,
My father just recently purchased a 2000 C230K, and we're a bit concerned the sound system isn't working exactly as it should.
As far as I can tell, the car does not have the Bose option (can't find the word Bose anywhere) - there is a speaker in each door, and 2 on the rear deck. First of all, the ones on the rear deck seem to be producing only bass notes - is this normal or are they supposed to be acting as regular speakers? Second, the system does not seem to go very loud - turned up around 60% is a good strong listening volume - is it supposed to have a bit more power or is it normal and we just expected more? Finally, CD's played (through the 6 disc changer in the trunk) are extremely staticky and fuzzy, and very quiet. Just a loose connection maybe?

Edit: CD1 is just loud static, CD2 is silent, CD3 plays very quiet, fuzzy sound, CD4 is loud static, CD5 is loud static, and CD6 plays a quiet, fuzzy sound.

I have the exact same car....when you turn up the volume to 60% It should be loud and clear...The rear deck speakers are normal speakers. It should not be only low bass. The speakers could be blown. The words "Bose" are written on the rear speaker covers. The previous owner may have swaped them before selling you the car.

That's certainly what it seems like, they only play bass. Also, I found it a bit odd that they aim downwards into the trunk, yet they have grills in the cabin...
I'm going to have the dealer look at the changer - hopefully it's not just kaputt...

Had it in at the dealer this morning to have them do a couple other things and had them look at the stereo - the stereo itself is functioning correctly (just less powerful than I expected I guess), but the CD Changer is kaputt. I'm not paying the crazy amount for a new one so I'll probably keep my eye out for a used one, but since the one in the car right now is no longer under warranty I may pop it open and see if I can fix it myself.
Anybody know any place that rebuilds them?

are you sure that there are tweeters above the ac vents in the 99 with the bose system? I just went to confirm by taking a listen and didn't hear squat coming out of those grilles above the vents...
also, is there anywhere I can buy replacement "woofers" for the rear deck? one of them is rattling pretty bad - sounds blown. is the install a pain, i.e., should I just bring it to the dealer? wondering if my extended warrantee covers this. anyone know?
also, thinking about installing an infinity basslink in the trunk. anyone have any thoughts on how to augment the current system with this powered sub? I don't want too much splicing to take place, I just have this extra sub out of my old car.
lotsa questions about my "new" ('99 c230 kompressor) benz! love the ride, but the stereo leaves much to be desired. I thought the bose would be adequate - maybe taking care of the "subwoofer" rattle will be enough.
