Check engine light and ac element vacuum leak

Hi everyone,

I am looking for help in temporarily removing engine vacuum to ac elements, as I was told by a mechanic in the past that when he plugged off the vacuum lines that the trouble codes went away and when he reconnected them the codes reappeared. He told me that I would have no ac or heat if I wanted the light to be off and also recommended replacing the vacuum elements inside the dash for around 1800 dollars. I have been spending soo much money on this car and cannot afford to make that repair at the moment. Also, the check engine light is still on (I believe as a result of the vacuum leak) and I need to smog my car next week. My question to you all is anyone familiar with my particular situation and know how I can disconnect the vacuum to the ac elements so that the I can potentially pass my smog check? If so, can you explain this process? I have a 1998 c280. Thanks a lot for reading and responding
