Wheel Studs Too Long?

i tried putting on my new wheels with the OEM wheel studs because the company where i bought them cant understand that i have no use for the nuts that they sent me. anyway, they didnt fit because when i finished tightening them down, i tried turning the wheel and it didnt move. how does the length of the wheel stud affect the movement of the wheel? i thought the holes where the studs go are no where near the moving parts like the brake rotors.

Do the wheels use a ball seat or a cone seat? I couldn't use my stock lug nuts because they had a ball (rounded) seat. Most aftermarket wheels use a cone (cone shaped) seat. Go to Advance Auto Parts, or some other parts store and pick up some crome cone seats if this is your problem.

I had the same problem as you are having. from what i remember i had to buy new studs for the rear wheels...from pep boys. The ones from pep boys were still a little long so i had to get them cut. In addition to, certain rims take certain types of studs...for example...your stock rim uses a conical head while some aftermarket use a v shaped head. If you use the wrong head...it can mess up the studs and what the studs go into. Here is a pic of what i am talking about. Hope this helps.

Lug bolts must be carefully measured otherwise you can have problems.
If they're too long, then you can damage components behind the rotor, and the wheel may not sit tight. If they're too short, then you risk the wheel coming off.

For a 12mm lug bolt (what the W202's use) you want about 6 full turns of the lug bolt, before it's seated snug against the wheel.

Factory bolts are 12x1.5 39mm BALL seat.
Many aftermarket wheels use CONE (or TAPER) seats.

Once you narrow down the bolts you need, visit our website, we keep numerous lengths and styles in stock.
