reprogram remote
hello
i just bought a 99 c230k. great car. but it came with one remote. i was checking remotes on ebay. but before i buy does anyone know the procedure to reprogram it or its only a dealer thing.

i only got one key when i bought mine too, it was about 120 bucks for a new one, there is a chip inside the key that has to match the chip in the car, i am thinking it is a dealer-only thing to reset those, your local benz dealer's parts department can tell you if they can reset a used key. someone here on the boards may also be able to tell you. good luck.

I don't thnik you can, becaus ethe key is not emitting, it's the car'S reader that reads into the key.. that's what my dealer told me.
maybe you can get the lock/unlock feature to work, but I really doubt you can get the car start with the key. Even the dealer can'T, they order their keys from germany.

I do not think that you can get a used key to work with a different car if you have the smart key. Then you will have to go to the dealer where they charge 120+ for a replacement. According to them they have to have it made just for your car. On a brighter note, they might replace it with the new style smart key where the key is really small.

The $120 price would be good news; my mechanic bought a 2000 ML430 with one key and was told that the vehicle was "keyed out", meaning that the maximum amount of keys (8) had already been made for the vehicle; his only option for an additional key would be to re-key the vehicle: beaucoup bucks!
