Headrest Release Switch Problem
Headrest Release Switch Problem
I searched the site for an answer, but never found a solution, so I'm posting this again:
The dash mounted headrest release switch in my '95 C280 seems to be inoperative. With the engine running, when I push the switch, I can hear a faint click coming from the rear dash, but the headrests stay up. If I have my wife push the switch while I push on the headrests, still nothing. Any ideas?

i'm guessing the release mechanism is not working properly. If you hear the clicking sound like it's releasing the headrest but it's not going down, prossibly the actuator that controls that is gone.
Thanks for the input, GDawg. I spoke with Enrique at MB Motors in Tarzana Ca, and he says it could be a look or faulty vacuum hose on the headrest control valve under the rear seat. As soon as I can figure out how to remove the seat without breaking anything, I'll check it out.
For anyone that's interested, I found the problem. After removing the back seat and much of the trunk lining, I could see that all the vacuum lines were properly connected to the vacuum gizmo that's mounted under the rear "package shelf", near the right rear speaker. So I reasoned that the engine end of the vacuum line could be the issue so I looked there. Wuduyu know? I found a vacuum line there that wasn't connected to anything. I looked and reached and searched and groped, but I couldn't find where it was supposed to go, so I just took kit back to Mr. MB and he fixed it in 5 minutes. He might have disconnected it when he was repacing the engine harness a few weeks ago. Anyway, the headrests work fine now.

Good to know - thanks.
Thanks for the update and glad you got it working.

haha, this happened to me a while ago when I bought my 300E. After an hour of going back and forth from the switch to the headrest (i have no friends to help me), I finally realized the car had to be on.
I felt like crawling under my bed and hoping nobody witnessed my stupidity.

I am def. having a vacuum hose issue! My headrests wont go down and now my heat wont change it is only going through the dash vents nothing to the floor. I looked under the hood and saw a short vacuum hose under the intake manifold and it looked fine. Is their any hoses on the underside of the motor where does the vacuum line go back to the trunk, inside the car? I am about to take it to the dealer but I just hate those guys!
