Remove combination switch procedure
In either case, it's pretty easy. Have steering wheel pointing straight. Make sure key is removed and put away. Remove the airbag. Remove the steering wheel. If you have a steering angle sensor, remove it by loosening the two screws through the holes (not removing them). Then you can see the screws that hold the combination and cruise control levers in.
p.s. thanks for using a useful subject line!

Anyway do I need to remove the whole assembly or is there a way to access this part from the end of the switch? It feels like the cap on the end may just be snapped in place and I could access from that direction?
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

The whole thing goes for about $80 brand new, so Doug's price is good, although I've bought them on eBay for under $20. We use a 2000+ W208/W210 version for pre-2000 cars (and 2000 W202) to upgrade them to multifunction steering wheels.
