Sudden Overheating

Writing this for help / advice. 94 C280 here 224k miles on the dash. Went out for a drive tonight, stopped for 5 minutes. When I stopped, temp went up to 120. Once I started back driving, within a minute, the temp went back down to the normal operating range (pictured). My AC unit was like it was dead. None of the buttons worked. When I got home, I noticed that after turning the car off, the red light on the zero button on the climate control was still on. I also noticed that my fans never came on. So I pulled the negative battery cable and reconnected it and voila…the light went off. I then started the car with AC and low and behold, my fans came on. Also, sometimes recently, my climate control temp has started to read in Celsius?? And then when the car is turned off, it reads in Fahrenheit. Anyone ever experienced this and have any idea of what this is?
