1996 c220 starting issue, is it the central locking mechanism?
I've got a 1996 c220 with 80k miles I took in recently and finished up a wiring harness. Upon installing the harness, it would crank and not fire up. When it would start, it wouldn't hold idle and just fall flat and die. I ended up getting it started and the engine runs extremely smooth. I turned it off and started it again when hot, and it fired up again. Come the next day (today), I tried to start it, and it just cranks and cranks, occasionally firing up but not holding idle and dying again. I looked into the cam sensor, and crank sensor, both of which seem to be good.
I checked all the fuses, removed, and cleaned them. Fuse #27 was blown, central locking mechanism. I replaced that along with cleaning the other fuses, and the car fired up first try.
Is there something I'm missing? Will the central locking system cause the car to not start? I know it's considered part of "anti-theft", and this is my first w202 i've worked on myself, but every other vehicle I've had with anti-theft problems, will end up not powering the starter and you just see lights on the dash come on...
Could someone tell me if central locking causes issues starting the vehicle like mentioned above?
