W202 Steering play?
Good afternoon,
So I had a commercial tire shop fail my 1999 C230K yearly inspection for steering play.
I ordered a new drag link and steering damper. I’m going to replace them tomorrow.
however I lifted the car today to spray penetrant on all the hardware, and the total play is about an inch, 10% seems to be in the ball joint of the pitman arm to the drag link. Most of the play is the pitman arm moving in the steering box.
My question is, is this normal? Does the lash need to be adjusted in the steering box? I took a video, I will try to upload. Any comments or opinions are appreciated. Thanks.
