Temp gauge

I have a question regarding the temp gauge...i have a 1996 C 200 and it has 72 K KM on it...i was wondering why does my temp can go above on the middle temp when it hits traffic jams...is there something wrong with my water pump??

I believe the owners manual says that the car will run warmer in traffic (stop and go) and during heavy loads. I would assume that this is because there is not as much airflow into the radiator to cool the car as much as when you are at speed. From what I have been told with other mercedes I have owned, if the car always runs warmer even when you are not in traffic, the waterpump could be going bad.

This is what I was told by the MB dealer where I used to live about the activity of the temp gauge. Apparently the temp gauge in Mercedes cars is an accurate, real-time guage where as, say in a Chevy car or truck, the gauge is more like an idiot light and goes red only when attention needs to be paid to it. So movement to a higher level when your sitting in traffic is normal.
