Check Engine Light & Charcoal Canister

I have my car in for service now, and instead of going to my local Benz specialist, I have it in a local repair shop with a decent reputation. The check engine light is on, and also the low fuel indicator blinks once in a while (seems to do it more when standing still for a bit of time, or when it is warmer). They said they think they have narrowed it down to the charcoal canister. Can anyone shed any light on this, and what the potential repair consists of, including some sort of idea on cost?

Thanks!
Mike

Blinking fuel indicator is usually loose gas cap. It detects a pressure loss in the gas tank and will blink the fuel light and may trigger the CEL. If the gas cap is tight, it may be the seal around the cap itself and you'll need a new cap.

Don't have any idea on the charcoal canister tho, but thought i'd help on the blinking fuel light

I wish it were that simple. I already replaced the fuel cap, as the blinking light can indicate some sort of fuel system leak (including the possibility of a loose fuel cap). It didn't help. So it is something more serious.

Perfect! I communicated this to the garage, and we'll see what happens. Thanks for the help.

Turned out it was, in fact, the evap canister (or charcoal canister). Everything seems to be working now, and CEL is off. Repair was about $500 w/ parts and labor (the canister was $350 from the dealer). Just figured I would post this in case someone else runs into a similar problem...
