Trunk doesn't go up

Hey guys,

My friend has a 230 komp. Her remote trunk just broke. It still pops open the trunk, but the trunk lid no longer flips all the way up. It only "pops" open. Is this an issue with some springs or trunk shocks or something? Has this happened to anyone? Whats the best way to fix it? (other than the dealerhsip, of course).

Thanks,
Stan

Adjust the springs, they are behind the left and right trunk liners. Do a search on "trunk spring adjustment" and you will find more. Although it may be for different models, the theory is the same, the details for removing the trunk liners vary.

Thanks, I'll try that. But Im curious, why did this happen all of a sudden? The trunk was working perfectly fine, and now, all it just stopped going up. It also slams down pretty hard now (harder than before) as if there is no spring force keeping it up. My friend says the trunk feels much heavier now. Do you think it will be as easy as adjusting the springs, or is there something else (like a shock) holding it up?

Thanks a lot for the help.

Stan

There are only two springs. It is possible one came off or that one is broken. No one can be sure until you take a look!

well if it opened up all the way before and it only just pops open now.. Id say most likely the spring mount on the trunk hinge broke off... its a somewhat common thing. there is a repair kit available from the dealer (instead of buying new trunk hinges) doenst cost too much either.. maybe $20-30.
but the only way to be sure is remove the trunk panels and check it out.
