car won't start

I just recently purchased a 1995 C280 in Dec 2001, with 48,000 miles. There are a few occassions, the car won't start... The first time, the car was driven for 45 minutes, engine was turned off for 10 minutes. When I turned the key to the right, all instrument lights are on, but nothing happened (engine did not crank). I checked the battery and connections, everything is tighted. Car is in park position. I came back after work (8 hours)and started the car without any diffculty. The car was doing fine for the next 3 months.

The second time was last week. Car was driven home from work and parked on the drive way. An hour later when I was ready to park the car in the garage, the car would not start, same symptoms as before. 3 hour later, car started without any problem.

Since then the car is running fine.

What is the problem? where should I checked?

be sure to remove the key, then re-insert and turn

in some cases, if you've left the key in, then try to start, it wont, unless you turn all the wAy to the left, then back to the right.

Cool neutral safety switch problem???

I have a '96 e320 with 90K miles and experienced the same symptons,. But, when I put the shift in N I was able to crank the engine....Try this the next time it happens. My mechanic said, its probably a bad neutral safety switch. I didn't replace yet. If anybody know its easy to change, please post.
cheers...d2B

I'm having the same issue only mine hasn't started in 2 days. I'm thinking it has something to do with that I had the driver side door panel off last night.

i had a 96 c180 and one time after filling up with petrol i got in the car and it too wouldn't turn over or anything, the car was new so this was pretty embarassing but i rang for someone to come out and it turned out that it was the key remote not working properly, the doors were unlocked but the immobiliser was still on making it so the car couldn't be started. probably of no use to you but worth a try

No Start

I thought I had a major problem the first time this happend to me. I think this could be a few things. First the key has 3 positions and I notice If I run through all the positions to quikcly the car wont start. Meaning if I turn the key to fast the car wont start.

I also noticed that the key with the infared on it has a problem starting the car if the battery is slightly pulled out of the remote.

The solution each time for me is to slowly turn the key back to position 1 and pull it completly out and put it back in and turn it slowly to position 1, 2, and then 3 and the engine for me turns over just fine.

Tell me if it works???

y7ou might want to check your starter, my car had the same problems and i took it into my friends shop to check, he told me that i had to change the starter, you might want to check your wires too and timing chain.
