Tail light question

Does anyone has this problem that the tail light bulb burns brighter on one side? My problemm is the driver side running light (#5) on the cluster burns brighter than the one on the passenger side. There are two filaments in the bulb, both filaments burn on the driver side but not on the passenger side. A friend followed me the other night told me the tail light was so bright that she thought I had the brake on, but then she realized that it was only on one side. It is a '96 C280 Sport. I replaced the bulb from one I bought the from dealer and it did not solve the problem, so I don't think I have the wrong bulb. Help.

Tail Light Burning dual fil

This is probably very late - but here goes my experience - I just bought a 1995 C280 from my mother in law ($1,500). After fixing the head gasket, wiring harness, and numerous other areas ($4600 total) I went after the tail light burning both filaments. It turns out that they tried to force an 1157 into the socket. I stopped by Mercedes and he gave me a new one - problem solved.

MeJay,

Could this problem be your rear fog lights? I know that when you have the rear fogs on, it's only on the driver side, which looks like your brake lights are on, but on just the driver side.

So, both your tailight and rear fog don't light up now?

a rear fog light is just what it says, a rear-facing light to alert traffic behind you during periods of dense fog. NOT to be used in clear weather "just because it looks cool" . it is bright, with the projection straight back, and distracting to those behind you, just what you want when you can't see 50' in front of you. You only get one ( left side) because that's the side you get passed on (supposedly) and if you had one on each side, it would look like you are 'riding the brakes'. (exception is Land Rover, Jag, and other UK cars that drive on the other (wrong? ) side. The headlight switch turns it on by pulling it out from either the parking or headlight position 2 detents....1st detent is front fogs only, and 2nd is both front and rear fogs...you will illuminate the orange light inside the knob when the REAR fog is on....long winded, but I implore you to use the fogs appropriately, not childishly....
