offset for 19 inch wheels

offset for 19 inch wheels
okay i thought maybe i should confirm the information given to me by someone.....i was told that for 19 inch wheels, the offset is supposed to be 40 rather than the 35 our factory wheels come in. IS THIS CORRECT?

Offset has a whole lot more to do with rim width and a lot less to do with wheel diameter.
These are the correct offsets for known, factory-approved widths on the W203:
7" - et37
7.5" - et 37
8.5" - et 30 - rear only
Greater than that width is not approved by the factory, however, I would guess that half of the extra width should be subtracted from the offset (e.g., 9" width = et30 minus 1/4" ~ et24). This, I would guess, is because of rubbing problems on the inside of wide rims. Judging from my new 8.5" rear rims, there is not too much clearance at the outside, either (without lip rolling).
