C180 Heavy Steering

Hello all,

I am new to this forum and MB's in general. Last thursday I bought a 2001 C180 Avant Estate. I am really pleased with it. However I have a query, the power steering is sometimes noisy although looking on the forums it could be low fluid level.

My main query is though, do you find the powersteering heavy on your cars. My last car was a Jag S-Type and the steering was really really light, the MB though seems alot heavier in comparision, you cant just use one hand to turn the wheel when parking. Does this sound normal to you guys?

Any input greatly appreciated.

Stu

First of all welcome to MBWorld.org Forurms

Well from my experience , I have C240 Sport Sedan and I feel the same when first time I bought the car, but still there is no changes,, I just adapt with that , you will find it heavy while stopping and smooth while driving

So its normal and simple don’t worry.

I guess the comfort power steering is an option, and our is standard.

Regard

That's normal for MB. This is their way to make steering more stable at speed. But I agree, it is quite a bit on a heavy side at low speeds. They should have made it speed-sensitive, the technology has been around for ages.

My steering in highway is really light, I think maybe is something wrong, it wasn't so ligth!!!

In city drive is a bit heavier than other cars (I had a BMW 3. series and it was a bit ligther) but it works whell in MB ideology, comfort first!

They should have made it speed-sensitive, the technology has been around for ages
MB offers parametric steering as an option for the C class!!!

Not in the U.S. Regardless, it should be standard on any MB.
