The link is to a Mercedes Benz of Russia club. It allows you to check the VIN of your car and see what options it had on it from the factory.

For some reason it says my car was delivered on:19.12.01. The cars first registration was in June 2002 so that is a bit odd. Also it says it came with cloth seats, but when I bought it (second hand private buy) it had leather seats. Go figure. There is also no mention of the sunroof as a factory option.

I guess this doesn't work for cars from '04 and up...at least that's what it told me when I entered my VIN.

yeah here's my readout!

1) VIN was incorrectly introduced in the form of demand;
2) VIN was incorrectly rewritten from the documents or from the body of automobile;
3) VIN was changed in the documents or on the body by criminals.
4) The automobile is made in 2004 or 2005, is not included yet in a database

i particularly like the changed by criminals part.

Call me paranoid, but I don't think I'd be sending my VIN info to a private foreign site. I've seen too many scams of "cars" showing up on ebay with VINs that were collected from various sources.

yeah i thought of that, but what are they going to do. fly in, track you down, confiscate your car, because it was up for sale on ebay?

same reason i guess i dont care if my license plate shows up in pictures here. people everyday see your license plate, your car and could easily walk by and copy your VIN. lifes to short to worry about big brother.

Caveat Emptor applies in this case...obviously you would do a proper background check yourself before buying a car off eBay, especially eBay!

You can collect alot of data on someone through these forums, and now someone suggests we connect that info with our car's vin and send it to RUSSIA?!!!!!

You are all right, i'm part of the Russian mafia and am pointing you to the site to get your VIN details. Next step is for a few of my buddies to fly out to your houses and double check if you really have the car. I didnt know we had so many Stone Cold Steve Austin (Dont Trust Anybody) attitudes on here.

Well considering I bought my car SECOND HAND, the information may well have been correct at the time of production you silly boy, thats the whole fun in checking, see whats been changed on your car before it came into your hands.
