auto windows/sunroof close when it rains?
my car has the rain sensing windshield wipers, is the car supposed to close the windows and sunroof when it detects rain? is this something the dealer has to program? my car is going in the shop saturday to have them disable the "no phone" message in the obc, i'm gonna see if they can get the windows to close when it rains too.
i know on most bmw's with rain sensing rearview mirror it closes them.

From an old post, the steps to go through in Star Diag are as follows:
Control Units -> Info. and comms. -> ICM -> Control Unit Adaptations -> Version Coding -> Optional Equipment
In the optional equipment menu you can set the following to present or not-present depending on what you have:
AUDIO, Tele-aid, Cellular Telephone, Trip Computer, Navigation
Best thing to do is print this out as the SAs often have to stuff around with the menus before they know what they are looking for.
Oh, and this is for the pre-2003/2004 models...it may be different for the 05s.

are you talking about disabling the me 'no phone' message when switching thought the MFD?
Also, when I took my car to the dealer last time I asked them to enable the NL chirping for the alarm, and was told that was "impossible" and didn't exist.
Does anyone know where I can find the tech instructions for setting the NL chirp alarm setting? I have been searching around without any luck.

Out Of Control!!
Although the windows and sunroof won't close with the rain sensor (frankly, I wouldn't want them to), you can close all of them at once with a touch of the recirculation button.

my 03 has NL setting activated. the dealer always says its impossible if they have no clue what your talking about.
the NO PHONE message had to be disabled using a star diag computer. the dealer disabled it, steve enabled it when he install UHI.

your saying, on a sunny day you'll already have your wipers set to intermitent, with the roof open. then an hour later it will start raining and convienently you would like your roof and windows to close because your wipers were set to intermitent on a sunny day?

Any feature that works automatically when you are not in the car would also work when you are driving it. So:
On a humid-rainy day, you might actually want control over your windows when it rains (the ability to crack the window yourself). With an autoclose feature, the flexibility to control window fogging without the A/C would be taken away. You crack the window only to have the sensor close it again.
Further, while no one can get hurt if your wipers sweep when it starts to rain, there is the potential of getting arms, hands or fingers trapped in an automatic window that closes on its own without warning. Yes, the anti-trap feature will activate. But MB wouldn't want the liability of such a feature. They secretly realize how stupid and sue-happy customers can be, especially American customers.
So, at the end of the day, it's far better to take responsibility for closing the sunroof yourself when you leave the car, rather than trust to the whims of weather, pidgeons that ate too many blueberries, or human cretons who hate upscale cars.

Honestly, auto close sunroof using the rain sensor would be simply a novelty...I would never leave my sunroof open.
