I did a project at VW a few years ago. For fun I put a VW badge on the rear of my BMW. A cop stopped me and asked me to explain why my plates were registered to a BWM, and I was driving a VW.

A person should be allowed, without judgement, to decorate their car in any style.. even a purple AMG!

Have you noticed, most rich people never flaunt their $? Just like how suburban kids try to act 'ghetto'. Empty cans rattle the most.

I wonder who's principle would that be? It's certainly not AMG's. But if it is and it's a crime or against AMG's laws, I know we all wouldn't be having this great debate. But then again, it's great to share ideas, opinions, and preferences. That's what this community is all about.

if an owner of a C32 or C55 would debadge their AMG and the letterings then put up a C230 or C350. I wonder if they will ever get flammed. LOOOL.

Everybody is reading into the badge issue waaaaay too much... When it comes down to it, does it really matter to you if he puts an AMG badge on? I mean, if that's how he wants to decorate his trunk, so be it. It's not like he's trying to pass off his car as an AMG car. I think until he starts calling himself an AMG owner, no one has anything to hold against him. When it comes down to it, he's gonna be doing enough explaining everytime someone asks him 'What kind of AMG is that?' or says 'Hey nice AMG!'

Personally, I prefer NO badges at all. Thats what Mercedes is all about, luxurious understatement.

I don't think putting an AMG badge on a Mercedes with full AMG bodykit is a poser, even though it is not equipped with an AMG engine. Lets say a Mercedes has a full Brabus bodykit but its engine is not Brabus-tuned, you'll put a "Brabus" badge so that people know that your bodykit is Brabus. Same for the AMG, those people who put "AMG" badges on their car just want to show that their cars have AMG bodykits.

Makes sense except the sport models come stock with AMG body kits, which kind of makes your reasoning dumb because you're essentially saying everyone with a sport model can put AMG badges on.

AMG badge on AMG kitted car i don't think anything's wrong with it, but 230/320/350/500 etc etc putting up the 32/55 badges is wack.

i.e. I have full Carlsson kit hense the badges, but I don't have the CK32 badge if you know what I mean.

well the c230ss has an amg bodykit etc, so its part amg! end of story! who cares if theres a badge on it, its got something amg on it, and basically people are saying it needs the amg engine to be one, not really amg is several different key parts on the car, so go kick rocks and get a life, besides fighting on the comp.

p.s i wont respond to people, repling to this post so save the time!

Putting an AMG Badge is stupid. Period. Whether it's a C230 or a S550, it just shows people like to appear bigger than they are. Why are people so vain?? In Europe most people remove the M-Logos/AMG-Logos, here they run on eBay and stick them on.

Why?
It didn't come from the factory like that, and by the way, your "AMG" body kits aren't really "AMG". Many of the parts 'look the same', but they have completely different part numbers. Take the C32 Rear Bumper and the C230/320/350, it's not the same bumper. I wonder if the whole Mercedes dealership goes over to the service department to get a good laugh when someone brings in a C230/240/280/320/350 with "AMG" badges... LOL...

Poser?
Yes. Even if you're not trying to say your car is an AMG (which you are, by broadcasting that logo on the trunk of your car -- to me, you might as well switch the letters to "C320" or "C32" while you're at it), why would you do that? Because you WANT the attention -- why AMG, why not Brabus? Because you know your car sorta LOOKS like an AMG so you're trying to pass it off, that's a POSER.

At the end of the day it's your car, so sure do whatever. But if you feel so little that you have to start stick an AMG badge on your car seems better, it's just a trait of your personality.

Quite frankly, I think AMG's in the future should look VERY different from normal C-Classes, and obviously now from the C55 - they do: Quad-exhaust, CLK Front Housing, features only specific to AMG models (brakes, etc.).

My friends and I (who know cars) like to laugh at people who do those silly things. License plate: "I wish I had an AMG"...

A C32's rear bumper is different from the C230's - the C32's bumper can fit 2 AMG Exhaust tips, C230 cannot, doesn't that make you think?

Also, by your point, all models are AMG's. S550 = AMG. E350 w/Sport Package = AMG. So what makes the AMG exclusive?

I'm not trying to be a smart ***, I just think AMG's should be exclusive - this business of putting AMG badges on your car to APPEAR is just a little ridiculous. Imagine all C-Class owners did it, it'd officially kill the C-Class AMG market.

probably not.. ppl at the dealer just don't know shyt for real. at least not my dealer. hahhaa. in fact, they often put a badge on like a CLK430 or something just to push the sale. i've seen that happen.

I believe it's still a different bumper, 07's were specially trimmed to get the 2-exhaust tips. But C32's AMG Bumpers and 07 & 06> AMG Bumpers all have different part numbers.

I am guilty, but not a poseur.

OK, so I may be guilty.
I removed the Zero from C230, and made it a C23.
I didn't go as far as putting an AMG emblem on the car, however
recently I acquired a license plate frame in black, that has AMG logo on it.
Looks much better than my prior frame.
However, as such, IF AMG was to sell an upgraded C230, what would that entail?
Higher engine output? Better brakes? Improved suspension?
Thats the core of the AMG tuned car.
And since I have done all those things, I wanted to distinguish my car from the
average run of the mill C230.
So perhaps I AM guilty.
I have AMG wheels, brakes, sway bars, and (non AMG) Coilovers, as well as ASP Pulley, Remus muffler, and headers.
People who simply buy a Kleeman pulley get a badge kit, to slap Kleeman all over the car.
Like I said, I didn't go that far. But if a Kleeman Pulley makes a
C230 into a C23K than wtf? Personally I think all you 1.8L drivers should rebadge your cars, C180's.
I'll leave all you fools in the dust...maybe except Drex. Ha...

LOL!!

Well, I don't know... I see people with C230's with AMG badges on it, seems kinda scary to me. I mean, I can't even find it on the AMG web site, I'm sure those AMG Body kits give the car +100HP.

No, but for real, I'm doing the same - AMG sway bars, AMG brakes, AMG muffler -- but I would never badge my car an "AMG", because it's not. It's kinda like saying, I used the same materials as Gucci, so I decided to put a Gucci tag on the inside of the collar.
