So I was driving tonight, and then I get a "Washer Fluid Please Refill" warning. Then I pressed the up button on my MFD to dismiss it b/c I was pretty sure it was out. Then, twenty seconds later, I get a "Coolant Check Level" warning.

I called up 1-800-For-Merc b/c they've been really helpful before with my old C280, and they told me to just look at the temp (which I already was doing). Since it was normal and wasn't going up, they said it probably is a malfunctioning sensor. They said that it shouldn't be a problem and not to worry. If it the temp did rise, I should just pull over and call them... (I really do like 1-800-For-Merc, they've always been so polite and helpful. AAA is a waste of money if you own an MB.)

I then parked where I was going and wanted to check the coolant, but couldn't really figure out how to eyeball it w/o taking off the cap. So I just didn't do anything and left the car parked for a few hours... Then when I left I drove home and nothing was happening up until 20 miles later the warnings came back, but the first warning to come on was the "Coolant Check Level". I took a pic of the coolant tank and there's some white stuff caked onto it. Is it leaking? Is it spitting up coolant?

I'm not free until friday to take it into the dealer, should I be worried? Or try to take it in sooner?

How do I exactly check the coolant? Thanks!

P.S. I also have a short video clip of the display showing the icons and warnings if anyone wants to see it--it's 9.1mb's though...

As long as the engine temperature is within limits, you should be ok. Take it to the dealer, they will see the codes. Make sure you mention this to the service writer so you can ask what the reason was.

It happened to mine once about a year ago. It would show itself every time I would take a long ramp off Rt66 onto Rt123 at 70+ mph (nice sweeping left turn with uneven radius - great for losing folks who want to challenge you by trying to tailgate )

It stopped, however, after the last "B" service. I never asked what they saw in the codes - looks like they just topped it off.

I had the EXACT same problem...first the windshield washer fluid level was low, and it really was; I filled it up...then the cooland warning came up. I was shocked, since I've only driven the car for 7000 kilometers. Since the dealership is a five minute drive from my house, I went and got it checked. The dealer opened the coolant container, and said it's filled to the top, so there should be no problems. He topped up the windshield washer fluid, and that's it. The light never came on after that.:S

that's good to know, i have a little over 10000 miles on my car, and I was pretty shocked as well.

both coolant and washer tank level sensors are on the same circuit. most likely one of the two sensors are bad. unless you see a leak i would not worry.

I had that same problem too... After the first big snow storm, constantly washing my windsheild I ran out of washer fluid. The message came up that said it was low, and then the coolant message came up... Never happened again though... Odd!
