'05 COMMAND Automatic Day / Night Display Setting

On my '05 COMMAND the display automatically changes from day to night display, with changing lighting conditions. But, in the morning, it remains in the night mode too long, forcing me to either have difficulty seeing the display, or to manually select the day mode. If the mode is changed to day, then on the ride home I have to return the setting to automatic.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Does anyone know of a fix? For example, can the sensor be moved to a place where more light may be detected? Or, can the vehicle settings be adjusted at the dealership for a better threshold?

What, you need a navigator to find your way home - every day??

Thanks, that was helpful.

On my vehicle, the COMMAND not only displays NAV information, but also audio and telephone. And the question remains, any thoughts on this problem?

Sorry for the joke Just a thought: does COMAND set its time and time zone automatically or do you have to program the time zone? That may well be the case - day/night switchover will be off if the TZ is incorrect.

my COMAND's dims about the same way. the COMAND has a seperate light sensor and doesnt run off the one your headlights use i heard. dont think there is a way to adjust it, atleast on the COMAND 2.0.

you can manually adjust the day/night settings.

I just run my COMAND from the display button. I turned off the sensor for automatic dimming of the screen as I don't really like the night mode anyway.

Yeah, I do that quite often. I just use the MFD for everything unless I am using NAV.

Any idea where the sensor is located, on the head unit or detached in the vehicle? Ifin it got just a little more light then it should work properly.

its on the front of the headunit from my understanding. there are two little dots, one in each top corner. one is the light sensor, the other the sensor for the remote. im not sure which is which. mind you this is for COMAND 2.0 as well. im not sure about the 05 COMAND setup.

Thanks, I tried this AM shining a mini-maglight into that opening (only one on an '05) and it changed to day.

It is now just one more thing to concentrate on while driving. Sometimes I even have to put the flashlight down and let it revert to night. Maybe I can make a holder.

Try sticking a little lens on the sensor - see if it improves the operation. If you really want to keep using the flashlight, get one with an LED - the battery will last much longer.

I still believe that there should be a way to adjust sensitivity of the sensor - it may just be hidden inside of the unit.
