Rain sensor in '05

MB redesigned the rain sensor sometime between '02 and '05. I HATED them in my C240 and I HATE them in my C230! In my C240, all I had to do was pull the plug on the rain sensor to make the system revert to a standard intermittent setting. It was like 5 seconds per wipe, or something. The new system has 1 plug for the rain sensor and the light sensor
Does anyone know how to disable the rain sensing function w/ this new system without affecting the light sensor? Can the service dept. do it with the laptop hooked up to the car? I'm going to ask the service advisor, but some of you know more than them!

Second, I know I'm not a real "Benzo" because I haven't read my owner's manual from cover to cover, but I just discovered pressing in towards the steering column on the wiper/flasher stalk gives 1 swipe of the wipers. Cool!

2004 the new rain sensor came out. im not sure if the dealer can change the setting.

the single wipe with the push of the button is a cool feature for those times when dew is on the windshield.

There are three wires going to a single plug on the combined rain/light sensor. I'd bet that snipping 1 of them would kill the rain sensor without affecting the light sensor, but which one?!!!!!!! What would be great is if I had an extension cable with the proper male and female plugs on the ends. I could wire the extension cable in line w/ the sensor and snip each wire on the extension individually to see what happens.

I just ran across this pic in an old thread! Looks like the dealer may be able to set the rain sensor to NOT present!

I love my rain sensor. I don't understand why you'd rather not have it.

No, you have to live with it. They indeed combined the rain sensor with the road illumination sensor, and there is no way to disable one without affecting the other. Not sure why you don't like it, though. I think it is ok, as long as you keep the glass over it clean (takes a couple of squirts and swipes to make it so).

Change the part to one without rain sensor. Sounds lame to me though.

The rain sensor in my new car works just as bad as the one did in my old car. The windshield is PERFECTLY clean. With just a misting rain, the wipers wipe too much, just like blkc230k said above!

Will that work?! Who wants a rain sensor for their '05+ C class? Send me your non-rain sensing windshield sensor from your '05 C class, I'll mount it in my car. If it doesn't cause a fault screen and I get the standard intermitent wiper setting, I'll send you my sensor! Sound good?

To remove your windshield sensor, just grasp the black plastic cover and pull straight off. There are 4 little tabs you will need to gently pry back to release the actual sensor. BE GENTLE with the tabs! I don't want a sensor with broken tabs

dont you take a chance of breaking the windshield when you pull it out though?

No. There is a plastic "frame" glued to the windshield. You cannot remove the frame. This "frame" has a few tabs that attach to clips on the rounded plastic cover. They release easily when you grasp both sides of the cover and pull. This "frame" also has 4 tabs which attach to the 4 clips on the sensor itself. Just insert a small screwdriver between one of the tabs and clips to release the connection. Continue that procedure to the rest of the tab/clip connections and the sensor comes off. It is MUCH simpler that how I described it. It takes just a few seconds to remove the sensor. Then you just pull the wiring connector out of the sensor.
