Navi for the benz

hey guys, i'm looking into getting a new navigation system. i had the pioneer navi and monitor w/ DVD in the bmw which i recently sold, but i need something portable b/c my girl can't drive stick and she does real estate and mortgages so she would need to use as well. i was looking at the magellan's but my question is how do i upgrade the software when needed? is it possible? anyone have a portable navi unit. i'm looking into the magellan roadmate 700. with the pioneer all i had to do was buy the most current disc but i'm curious if software can be downloaded or if it has some type of navi stick (like the PDA's). any input is appreciated

They usually come with a link cable to your computer. With that you can upgrade the firmware, and I believe update the maps too.

if i could suggest, my friend has a great item, he has a pocket pc (i think its called ipaq?) anyhow he has a program that plugs into a slot and it navigates great with sound and all, he even has a holder for it so it doesnt go all over the place, its a cheap and effective way to get portable navigation (hell you can even get a pda out of it if you wanted!)
if not go for the navman its cheap and i hear pretty good

i'm not concerned w/ cost. i'll happily pay the $1,200 for the magellan b/c i've used it before and it works great. alot of PDA applications require downloading routes or addresses and i want something that's always in there w/o having to deal with it. i have a PDA and looked into the navman, in fact one of the guys i work with has it and it does work well. i like the magellan however and would like some type of cradle for it so it sits like one of the old school carphones did. maybe there are some newer PDA navi's that have all the routes in it, but not for mine and then i'd have to buy another PDA and since my girl needs to use as well, i'd have to buy her another one as well or let her use mine which is not an option. i pretty much live by my PDA and have it on me at all times.
