People keep saying that they are going to check into Momo or similar knob. If you go with a non-megabucks direct replacement (Brabus or Renntech - I've got the Renntech), you'd have to get one that screws onto the shaft, or get the end of the stock shaft threaded (if it's the correct diameter). Don't forget that to get it into reverse, you have to pull up on the knob, so that'll put wear on the point that it's attached to the shaft. For this reason, I'd recommend the Brabus or Renntech ones - direct replacement, use same overengineered system to attach the knob.
There is a special knob under the boot that is turned 1/4 turn. To get to this you have to pry up the silver shift bezel (gently insert a credit card between console aluminum and silver bezel and pry up.) The grippers are plastic so be careful. The pull the shift boot up to the knob till you can get to the attachment knob with your fingers. (can't recall if you turn it to the right or left, though... you'll be able to tell. Then pull the knob straight up and off the shaft.
Go slow and you'll get it off fine.
"The shift knob is a silver mat looks like it is aluminum but it is painted.
$165."
The mount is identical to the factory one, although the base of the knob is angled so the boot may not fit snugly; you can pick up the slack of the boot by perhaps securing it from inside with a tie wrap (I'll try this tomorrow), but it looks and feels great, fits good after filing off about 1/8" of a plastic ridge on the base - no biggie, I did it with a knife.
See tommy's pic post at the top of this forum.
Just indicate whether you have the manual or auto shifter.
