Wow! Service A Cost.
Hi all,
In my last post, I mentioned that I was going to have my first Service A performed on my 2005 C230 SS. Someone asked if I’d post the cost of the service. Well I was very pleasantly surprised. The dealership, where I purchased the car (Mercedes-Benz of Danbury in Connecticut), has a special deal. If you purchased the car from them, they pick up the cost of the oil change and you pay for the rest of the inspections. They implemented this plan when Mercedes-Benz eliminated the free service. So the total cost to me was $51.94. Needless to say I was very happy. They also fixed my rattling trunk release button. A loaner car was also provided.
On a side note, the loaner car was a C240. I thought it was very nice. The engine was smoother than the 4-cyclinder in my car. However, it was down on power when I really gave it the gas. For around town driving, it was fine.

Just called my dealer. ~$250 is what I was quoted. So I'm shooting for the oil change and reset my reminder option. Don't we get a free alignment prior to 13,000 or did I dream that up??

service dude: have you noticed any pulling or vibration?
me : uh no.
service dude: are you sure?
me: yeah im sure.
service dude: i mean maybe it pulls just a little bit?
me: ok sure it pulls to the left. happy now?
service dude: we will do a free alignment up to 12000 miles if you report any issues.
moral of the story: ask and ye shall sometimes receive.

Sorry. It was a rotation and not with the staggered set up.

cost $0.

Best thing is to call around, i never knew about this until i started calling other dealers around. At Rusnak in Arcadia, they quoted me $250 for service A, but found out that at Penske in West Covina only charges $180. It's amazing how much mark-up each dealer tags on... even on parts the prices are different. You would think they would all be the same, but i guess not.

Well starting to see yet another downside of being a town with only 1 dealer...
Took 2.5 days to change the oil & align it, but it is Masters week so I'll let them slide.
Then, I get there and tried to charge me for the alignment. Told them its covered for 12mth/12k and he looked like deer in headlights. Had to get my warranty booklet out and show him. At this point, I don't know if it was simply ignorance on their part or them hoping I didn't know and sneak charge on me. Either way, doesn't give them a good rating in my book.
Then I ask about the $38.50 labor charge to reset my service reminder. I noticed that my oil change labor was also $38.50. I asked "It takes the same amount of labor to change oil as it does to reset a reminder, ok then its either real easy & quick to change the oil or real hard to reset the reminder, can I ask the technician?" He stumbled and then blabbed on about min charge for min time, yadda, yadda. I really was just messing with him to see if he would back off...and of course I got "I'll knock it off for you this time."
So out the door w/ a $95 oil change vs. a ~$250 service "A" quote.
